Garrick Davis

“Songs of wisdom, songs of dues paying, songs of experience, and ultimately, songs of winning the struggle." ~Suzanne Glass of Indie-Music.com

"Rock, Blues, Funk and Passion" describe the music, performance and lifestyle of San Francisco guitarist/singer/songwriter and producer Garrick Davis, whose Roots-based music is a seamless blend of genres, creating a truly personal style. His distinctive   guitar work recalls the zest of Jimi Hendrix’  modern blues and the driving rhythms of Pete Townsend and Richie Havenswhile lyrically, Garrick expresses an inspirational, positive vibe and philosophy that is handily expressed with his dynamic baritone voice.

Davis’ performs acoustic and electric when performing as a solo act or with The Fabulous FunkyBand. His domestic touring rig allows an expansive freedom for improvisation and storytelling as he uses an array of pedal effects that are applied with tasteful brevity. Garrick's musicianship shines through with or without them, however. A surprising range of musicality comes from one man, his guitars, voice and an organic approach to technology.

“Songs of wisdom, songs of dues paying, songs of experience and, ultimately, songs of winning the struggle." was written in a review about Garrick's 2001 debut "Glass Half Full", a project financed by his own credit cards as part of an exit strategy to end a steady but spiritually unfulfilling 21-year career as a grocery clerk. The album boast great session musicians that bring the tracks to life. Garrick’s mother, singer Marie Davis, appears on two tracks.

Garrick's 3rd full-length album, “Expose Your Self”, was released January 2012 and contains 13 music tracks that weave themes of redemption, gratitude and the various facets of love on a bed of Rock, Blues Funk, Psychedelic and Classically influenced music. Expose Your Self was self-produced and engineered over 4 years in collaboration with high caliber musicians of TheFabulous FunkyBand".

Pursuing the vision of creating a body of work that would be"healing" while dealing with the darkness in life culminated in a varied, complex yet accessible record. Garrick took his MacBook, mics and other gear to record drum and percussion tracks by Grant "Slam" Walthall and Julia Harrell. He set up mics at his parent's house to have them add support vocals. The remainder and bulk of the recording and all of the mixing took place in his one bedroom apartment on the San Francisco Peninsula he dubbed "Studio 617". Guest musicians and family serve to inject an expansive community vibe to the both personal and universal song themes and to the project as a whole.

Garrick: “I am proud that at some point in my life I was able to experience and complete this album. From the first song I wrote as a 14 year old I heard songs like this, but only in my head.  It was the first time I had full creative freedom and I gained so much confidence in my abilities, experience I will use in my own and other’s music projects for the remainder of my life and career.”

"The Show" is a live 2-disc DVD/CD set recorded at a sold out full band show in 2005. A solo acoustic cover of Jimi Hendrix' Voodoo Child (slight return) opens the CD and was featured on the "House Of Blues Radio Hour" introducing Garrick to a national audience. The rest of the CD is a display of what Garrick can do leading a band of great musicians and what these musicians add to his music.

He looks to building an expansive tour schedule in various regions of the U.S., Canada Europe and The U.K.. At the root of it Garrick Davis enjoys bringing people together through music and following his dream and passion in doing his part to make the world a better place.

Davis teaches guitar privately in the San Francisco Peninsula area with a roster that includes both children and adults. Garrick has conducted public group classes for the City of San Mateo, Oakland Feather River Camp in Quincy, CA and the Oracle Corporation.

Garrick Davis celebrates his 46 years as a guitarist and almost as many as a songwriter as he begins a new phase of his career touring the U.S. and internationally to share the messages and lessons learned found in the songs of his growing catalog. As new music gurgles up he looks to record and release more frequently.
